We have a diverse production facility comprised of an industrial food kitchen, an industrial bread and confectionery bakery, a rusk bakery, as well as a business unit which produces niche pestos, garlic products, frozen fruit and fruit toppings.  We strive for excellence and the production of the highest quality products in all our units.

Leanne’s Rusks, a nominee for the Best of George Award – 2025, is a leading rusk bakery in the Southern Cape. For over twenty years, artisanal rusks, traditional crunchies and gourmet cookies, perfect for breakfast and that ‘anytime snack’ have been crafted in this bakery.

Funkit Bakery & Kitchen (previously known as Jimmy’s Bakery) is well-known for its Portuguese rolls, and an array of breads, rolls, roosterkoek and delicious confectionary, tempting enough to satisfy any sweet tooth.

We understand the busyness of life and how costly and time-consuming food preparation and baking can be. We’ve blended tradition and innovation. Our baked goods and healthy ‘Grab and Go’ light meals are perfect for breakfast, lunchboxes or a quick meal on the run.

As owners of the Fun-kit brand, Lumarco Foods established itself as a respected and well known manufacturer and distributor of fine food products in the Garden Route area and throughout South Africa.

We make a range of quality products in our factory in George, which is FSSC accredited.

In today’s fast-paced world, we aim to build personal relationships with our clients and honour all commitments excellently.

Best Bake Flour & Swartland Stoneground Flour

In 1999 a farmer in the Tulbagh area had a dream to erect a small stone mill for milling flour in an old-fashioned way. By grinding the wheat between two enormous stone wheels, he managed to build up a small market milling two tons of stoneground flour a day.

With the help of 10 employees, Oude Tol Meulens was born.

ABOUT US

At the heart of Lumarco Food Distributors are passionate founders, Frank and Leanne Balanco a dynamic husband-and-wife team, whose individual journeys have culminated in a homegrown business which has been marked by their shared love for quality, family, and products that have become a household name.

Lumarco Food Distributors (Pty) Ltd was founded in 2013 by Frank and his late wife, Louise. The well-known Funkit Food garlic range, pestos, fruit toppings and frozen fruits were established. After Louise’s passing in 2019, Frank made a decision to expand the business. At the height of the Covid-19 outbreak, instead of closing the business, Frank purchased two new businesses; Jimmy’s Bakery and Hetta’s Foods, which is now rebranded The Funkit Kitchen & Bakery.

In 2021, further growth and expansion took place. The decision was taken to merge Leanne’s Rusks (Pty) Ltd, an established rusk bakery in the Southern Cape, and Lumarco Food Distributors Pty (Ltd).  Peter and Daniel Pretorius joined Lumarco as owner / directors and Leanne joined the team at Frank’s side.  

It was at this time that Lumarco was also contracted to prepare, package and distribute weight controlled, frozen meal packages for an online food company. Lumarco successfully established and assisted in growing this business as a leading brand in the online meal market.

In 2024, Jimmy’s Bakery increased its basket, when Lumarco Food Distributors acquired Bread House Bakery.

Leanne’s eye for perfection and excellence has grown Leanne’s Rusks into an artisanal bakery of note. Jimmy’s Bakery has been upgraded and re-named The Funkit Bakery. This is also fast becoming a household name across the Southern Cape region.
